Purpose
Reporting to the Plant Manager – Sydney, and works in close coordination with the Quality Manager – APAC, the Quality Manager - Sydney is responsible for managing all aspects of quality within manufacturing and supply chain activities in Australia.
The role includes leadership responsibility for 2 Quality Technicians currently covering a production shift rota. You will be expected to take a lead role in problem solving, supporting, and coaching using recognised lean initiatives such as RCA, 5 Why's and 8D.
This role will work closely with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Design, Project Management and R&D Teams to ensure smooth execution of changes and new product introduction while ensuring compliance with both local and APAC quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy:
- Working with the senior management team to develop and maintain quality strategies, KPI's and policies for the business
- Works in close coordination with the APAC Quality Manager to ensure alignment of quality systems, customer complaint processes, audits, and compliance requirements
- Lead and coach the Quality Technicians to maintain consistent quality control throughout all production shifts
Compliance & IMS:
- Act as the Quality Compliance Officer for the Sydney site, responsible for day-to-day management of product and system compliance
- Maintain the Product Compliance Register (PCR) together with the Engineering Lead
- Coordinate with the APAC Compliance and Quality teams to ensure all quality systems are aligned with Tate APAC IMS
- Maintaining certification and compliance to ISO 9001, 3834, 14001, 45001, and 37301
Audits & Supplier Quality:
- Plan and conduct Internal audits in accordance with IMS
- Lead Supplier audits within Australia
- Lead Customer audits, External audits at Australia sites
- Support supplier qualification and ongoing performance monitoring in collaboration with Purchasing and APAC Quality teams
Customer & Product Quality:
- Support new product introduction from a quality perspective, working closely with Engineering and Design Teams
- Lead root cause analysis and drive robust corrective and preventive actions for product issues and customer complaints
- Coordinate with Tate APAC Quality to ensure all customer complaints raised in the region are properly investigated and closed through 8D processes
- Ensure quality records and documentation (including inspection reports and test results) are accurately maintained and traceable
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
Key relationships: Dealers and partners across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Education, Work Experience & Skills required, Personal Qualities (Selection Criteria)
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (industrial, mechanical, chemical), business administration, or a related scientific field
Work Experience and Skills:
- Proven ability to lead small quality teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders
- Time-served in an Engineering discipline, preferably manufacturing or fabrication
- Demonstrated experience in managing QMS, supplier audits, and customer complaint resolution
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certified
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and related standards (ISO 3834, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 37301)

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with internal and external authorities
Additional Requirements
- Proficient in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written formats, including technical discussions, reporting, documentation, and correspondence with colleagues and clients. Capable of understanding complex instructions, participating in meetings, and preparing detailed reports or presentations.
