An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Team Leader (EO12) to join the Listings & Assessments team within the Threatened Species and Ecosystems Policy branch for up to 12-month period. This is a full-time (5-day) position offered as a job-share arrangement with the current Senior Team Leader, who works part-time (3 days). In this role, you will lead a team responsible for providing governance and administrative support to the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee, oversee implementation of the Common Assessment Method, and deliver policy advice on species listings.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Threatened Species and Ecosystems Policy Branch and leading a team of four, this role will focus on the following key areas:
- Manage the agency's support for the Threatened Species Scientific Committee, providing it with high quality logistical and policy support and maintaining productive working relationships with committee members.
- Lead NSW's implementation of the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding - Agreement on a common assessment method for listing of threatened species and threatened ecological communities.
- Maintain the lists of threatened species and ecological communities and key threatening processes in NSW.
- Coordinate work of staff to ensure that threatened species listing processes are consistent with government policy and legislative requirements and update information relevant to listing threatened species and ecological communities.
- Develop, deliver, promote and evaluate long-term plans to maintain the threatened species lists.
- Develop effective policy, respond to the Government and Minister's policy directions, lead or coordinate the development of strategic policy, and develop legislative and regulatory reforms related to threatened species and ecological communities and their listing.
- Prepare high level written reports, submissions, briefing notes and ministerial correspondence on a range of issues as required.
- Negotiate with and provide expert advice to senior management on threatened species listing processes.
- Review and analyse program and project effectiveness, appropriate resource allocation and timely action including managing budgetary spending in line with funding policies and guidelines.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong attention to detail, proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and experience in leading and developing people. Experience providing administrative and program support to government committees or boards, along with knowledge of threatened species, will be highly regarded.
Essential Requirements
- Experience providing policy advice on complex issues within government.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage the people and financial resources of a team to consistently deliver against agreed performance.
