The Role
We're looking for a qualified Financial Counsellor to join our Wellbeing Hub team in Nhulunbuy. This role focuses on supporting individuals and families to manage debt, build financial capability, and strengthen financial wellbeing across East Arnhem Land.
About Us
Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (Laynha) is a not-for-profit organisation that has supported 30 homeland communities in East Arnhem Land for over 40 years. We deliver essential services including healthcare, aged care, housing, community services, and land and sea management through our Yirralka Rangers.
About the Wellbeing Hub program
The Wellbeing Hub is a community space in Nhulunbuy dedicated to strengthening financial wellbeing for Yolŋu Community Members. We provide financial counselling, literacy education, and practical support such as banking help, Telstra assistance, food, and a safe place to rest. Our outreach to Homelands, including Bäpurru support and referrals, ensures Yolŋu feel supported both on Country and in town.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide financial counselling, advocacy and case support (budgeting, debt negotiation, navigating systems).
- Deliver community-based and outreach services to Yolŋu homelands.
- Work in a culturally respectful and responsive way with Aboriginal clients and communities.
- Maintain records and meet compliance and reporting.
What You'll Bring
- Diploma-qualified in Financial Counselling (or equivalent).
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities
- Strong communicator with a culturally safe approach.
- Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Comfortable travelling to remote homelands
- NT Ochre Card, National Police Clearance, and an open driver's licence.
