The Team
The Back on Track (BoT) Team undertake meaningful outreach with young people who have not transitioned from year 10 to year 11 and/or 12 and are not currently meeting the requirements of the Education Act The primary purpose of the team is to support young people to navigate their barriers to learning to assist young people to re-engage in education or training.
BoT encompasses three regional and multi-disciplinary teams. The team consists of Advanced Skills Teachers (AST), Social Workers, and Youth Workers who operate from offices in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie, supporting students across the state.
Back on Track aims to:
- Reconnect with young people who are not currently enrolled and assist them to re-engage in education or training.
- Work with young people to identify and navigate their barriers to engagement using an assertive outreach approach.
- Connect them with the appropriate services and supports to allow them to develop skills for independence.
- Provide reasonable gradual release monitoring and support for young people who have been re-engaged into training or learning pathway.
Back on Track provides access to:
- A multidisciplinary team, and connection to the broader Student Support team
- A government car for use when providing outreach
- Individual and whole-team professional learning
- Supervision and an extensive range of staff wellbeing services within DECYP
About the Role
Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a coaching and support service which assists young people and their families to re-engage with the educational system. The incumbent will build and maintain relationships with young people and their families, and contribute to improving transition, attendance and retention. The role will build capacity in young people and increase their participation in educational and training programs.

We are looking for:
Essential
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) with a registration Status – Employment
- Current Drivers Licence
Desirable
- A Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services or equivalent
