Role And Responsibilities
We are seeking a dynamic Drum Kit and Percussion - Specialist Instrumental Teacher to provide students with further access to experts and role models for music performance. Specifically, we are looking for a Drum Kit and Percussion Teacher (Contemporary Drum Kit/Tuned and Untuned Orchestral Percussion) for two (2) days per week (approximately 10-12 hours per week) with Thursday a preference to include the Curricular Year 7 Band small group percussion lessons.

This role is available for an immediate start in Term 4, 2025, to cover emergent leave with flexibility for the successful applicant to teach across multiple days if preferred.

About You
The successful applicant will be offered a casual; sessional role paid in line with the hourly rates set out by the Victorian Music Teachers Association. As part of the school's established co-curricular Music Program, the role involves teaching individual lessons, preparing students for AMEB (Rock School and Percussion) and directing or assisting with contemporary rock, pop, or concert bands, and ensemble rehearsals and performances.

As an Instrumental Music Teacher at Toorak College, you will:

  • Demonstrate success in taking individual and small group drum kit and percussion lessons, including preparing students for contemporary/popular, jazz and orchestral ensembles.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pedagogy and interest in the use of technology in instrumental teaching.
  • Possess an inherent understanding and passion for teaching children in a school setting.
  • Possess an outstanding commitment to excellence in Music Education and a proven capacity for innovative, flexible and research-based teaching practice.
  • Be committed to the consistent delivery of lessons.
  • Be willing to adopt change, collaborate and strive for professional excellence.
  • Have a current Working With Children Check - Employer or Victorian Independent Teacher (VIT) registration.
