Who can apply?

Applications are invited from firefighters who attained the rank of Station Officer, Leading Firefighter, Senior Firefighter or Qualified Firefighter with a minimum of twenty-four (24) months service at the rank of Qualified Firefighter as of the closing date of applications for the position of Bushfire Officer, Directorate Strategic Capability.

About the role:

Plan and respond to major emergencies in bushland.

Essential Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 24 months of service at the rank of Qualified Firefighter
  • Must hold requisite licences, certifications and authorities

Where a Non-Station Based Team leader role is advertised and applicants from the rank of Inspector, Leading Station Officer (LSO) with more than (12) months service at the rank of Leading Station Officer, or a Leading Station Officer with less than (12) months service at the rank of Leading Station Officer or a Station Officer (S.O) with (24) months service at the rank of Station Officer apply for the rank of Inspector (Non-Station based Team Leader) the following merit based process will apply in relation to the interview:

  • Where an Inspector and an LSO with more than 12 months at rank meet the minimum requirements of the Focus Capabilities of the Role Description (RD) then the Inspector will be awarded the position as they are at rank of the position advertised.
  • Where an Inspector does not meet the minimum requirements of the Focus Capabilities of the RD, and the LSO with more than (12) months service at rank does then the LSO with (12) months service at rank will be awarded the position and will be placed on a promotional pathway to Inspector and will be required to abide by the Permanent Firefighter (PFF) Award in relation to time served in position and any other relevant requirements.
  • Where an Inspector and an LSO with more than (12) months service at the rank of LSO are deemed to have not met the minimum requirement and a LSO with less than (12) months service at the rank of LSO does meet the minimum requirements of the Focus Capabilities of the RD then the LSO with less than (12) months service at the rank of LSO will be awarded the position and will be placed onto a promotional pathway to Inspector and will be required to abide by the PFF Award in relation to time served in position and any other relevant requirements.
  • Where an Inspector and an LSO with (12) months service at the rank of LSO or an LSO with less than (12) months service at the rank of LSO does not meet the minimum requirements of the Focus Capabilities of the RD and an S.O with (24) months service at the rank of S.O does meet the minimum requirements of the RD then the S.O with (24) months service at the rank of S.O will be awarded the position and will be placed onto a promotional pathway to Inspector and will be required to abide by the PFF Award in relation to time served in position and any other relevant requirements.
  • There is no requirement to interview applicants in order of rank as this is a merit-based selection process which provides offers based on rank.
