Our client AGL is seeking a Senior Developer to join them on a contract role in Melbourne CBD. You'll join the Physical Markets team where technology drives real-time decision-making in Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM). This team builds and runs mission-critical algorithmic trading applications that operate 24/7, empowering traders to bid strategically and manage risk with precision.

As a Senior Developer, you'll be at the heart of our trading infrastructure—designing, developing, and maintaining resilient, high-performance systems using .NET and Azure. These applications are the backbone of AGL's risk management and hedging strategies, directly influencing energy market outcomes and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build scalable .NET applications hosted on Azure App Services and Azure Functions
  • Integrate and manage Azure PaaS services including Application Insights, Service Bus, and Azure Storage
  • Collaborate with traders, analysts, and engineers to deliver real-time decision support tools
  • Ensure high availability and fault tolerance of 24/7 trading systems
  • Write optimized SQL queries and manage relational data for performance and reliability
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for consistent and automated deployments
  • Enhance observability and diagnostics through logging, telemetry, and monitoring
  • Participate in code reviews, mentor peers, and uphold engineering best practices
  • Continuously improve CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps

What You Bring

  • Proven experience in software engineering with deep expertise in .NET (C#)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and Azure PaaS offerings:
  • Application Insights
  • Azure Service Bus
  • Azure Storage (Blob/Table/Queue)
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with large-scale relational databases
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD, pipelines, and release management
  • Good understanding of Angular (or similar frontend frameworks)
  • Familiarity with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in trading systems, energy markets, or real-time decision engines
