About us
Bonsella is proud to be an AFR Top 100 accounting firm. Yes, compliance is part of what we do — but what really drives us is building lasting relationships, providing proactive advice, and delivering value-adding opportunities for our clients.
Our difference comes from our people. We're collaborative, innovative, and a little different from the "typical" accounting stereotype — and we're looking for a Practice Manager to join our leadership team and keep our firm running at its very best.
The opportunity
As Practice Manager, you'll be at the centre of our operations. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance day-to-day management with strategic projects that help our people and clients thrive.
You'll oversee operations, people, systems, finance and compliance across the firm — essentially running the "engine room" so our accountants can focus on delivering client services.
Key responsibilities
Operations & systems
- Maintain monthly and annual reporting for directors and shareholders (productivity, WIP, debtor days, utilisation, insights).
- Oversee office resources, facilities, and relationships with key suppliers.
People & leadership
- Support and report directly to directors.
- Lead HR systems and processes including recruitment, induction of new staff, performance reviews, and training plans.
- Drive a positive, high-performance culture with strong communication and staff engagement initiatives.
- Mentor and support the office/admin manager, ensuring workflow and support functions run smoothly.
Client service & quality
- Work with directors to ensure client deliverables are met to the required quality standard.
- Manage client escalations and assist in maintaining strong client relationships.
Financial & commercial
- Oversee financial operations including budgeting, invoicing, debtor management, and reporting.
- Provide regular analysis to inform business planning and strategic decision-making.
Compliance & risk
- Ensure compliance with all professional standards and practice obligations.
- Mitigate risk through effective policies, systems, and monitoring.
Projects & strategy
- Lead continuous improvement projects (automation, process documentation, software rollouts, growth initiatives, practice software improvements etc).
- Play a key role in change management and continuous improvement across the practice.
KPIs / success measures
- Staff retention and engagement.
- Efficiency and accuracy of operational reporting.
- Standard of quality delivery.
- Continuous improvement of systems and processes.
About you
We're looking for someone who is organised, commercially minded, and people-focused. You'll bring:
- 5+ years' experience in practice management or operations within an accounting/consulting/legal firm (business services/tax preferred).
- Proven leadership and people management experience (ideally across 20–50 staff).
- Strong operational and process improvement skills, with confidence using practice management and client relationship management systems (XPM, MYOBAE, or equivalent).
- Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, billing, and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
- The ability to work autonomously with sensitive and confidential information, adhering to our policies and legal requirements.
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Accounting, HR, or Management.
- Familiarity with CA ANZ, CPA Australia or other professional practice frameworks.
Why join us?
- Impactful leadership role – you'll directly influence how the firm operates and grows.
- Career growth – regular training, development, and leadership opportunities.
- Culture that clicks – collaborative, flexible, and fun with plenty of social events.
- Rewarding package – competitive salary aligned to your experience.
- Work-life balance – no overtime expected; we value your life outside of work.
How to apply
If you're ready to bring your skills and energy to a leadership role where you'll make a real difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.
