This is the perfect role for a curious, capable writer who's looking to stretch their creative thinking, take on greater responsibility, and escape the formulaic nature of traditional med-comms. You'll work on a wide variety of health campaigns and content formats, from activation and omnichannel journeys to brand storytelling and educational platforms.
We are offering a competitive salary (based on experience), and open to discussing flexible work schedules and situations. Ideal candidates will have 4–7 years of experience in medical writing or health content, and be looking for a role with greater creative breadth and strategic exposure.

The "art of the role" is in balancing scientific expertise with creativity and market insight. The goal is to produce customer experiences that meet rigorous scientific standards while also engaging and informing a range of audiences in meaningful ways.
This role takes the lead on content execution across a wide variety of client campaigns and media. By driving delivery with clarity, insight, and momentum, you'll help create the space for leadership to focus more on strategic growth.
To do this well, it's important that both the scientific and creative aspects of the role are approached through the lens of orchestrated customer engagement. Every piece of content should contribute to a personalised experience across the full lifecycle of our relationship with the audience.
You'll be comfortable having smart conversations with clients, medical reviewers, and regulatory teams — and can present creative work with clarity and confidence, even in complex or compliance-heavy contexts.
Core Responsibilities:
Developing Content:
- Write, edit, and proofread scientific and medical content across various formats (e.g., promotional materials, educational content, digital content, press releases).
- Drive the scientific story: develop engaging and creative content that translates complex medical and scientific information into compelling narratives for diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public.
- Ensure content is scientifically accurate, up-to-date, and reflects the latest clinical data and research.
- Create and manage brand messaging matrix and ensure message consistency across communications.
- Work in a broad range of formats such as video scripts, interactive online content, integrated educational programmes, animations, and podcasts, in addition to traditional print and digital mediums.
- Brand voice development – Play a key role in developing and maintaining a consistent brand voice across all content and platforms, aligning with the organisation's values and the expectations of its audiences.
Ensuring Compliance and Accuracy:
- Adhere to relevant guidelines and regulations (e.g., MTAA guidelines for advertising and promotion, Medicines Australia Code of Conduct, American Medical Association editorial guidelines, etc.) to ensure content compliance.
- Manage references, citations and annotations to ensure accuracy and make it possible for others to cite and check the content produced.
- Work with legal and regulatory teams to ensure all materials pass internal and external compliance checks.
Visual Storytelling:
- Collaborate closely with graphic designers, video producers, and digital media specialists to create visually appealing content that enhances comprehension and retention of scientific information.
- Participate in the conceptualization and development of visual aids, infographics, and animations that support and elevate textual content.
- Help produce ideas, concepts and campaigns that our clients will buy.
Digital Content Strategy:
- Understand and plan the content across the user journey. It's multifaceted and dynamic, especially when we are executing across channels.
- Contribute to the development and execution of digital content strategies, ensuring content is optimized for search engines (SEO), user engagement, and conversion rates.
- Utilize analytics tools to measure content performance and adapt strategies based on data insights.
Social Media Content
- Create and adapt content specifically for social media platforms, understanding the nuances of each platform to maximize engagement and reach.
- Stay current with social media trends and leverage these platforms to communicate scientific and medical information in innovative ways.
Content Personalisation:
- Employ strategies for content personalization to target specific audiences, understanding their unique needs, preferences, and challenges.
- Develop segmented content campaigns that cater to different stages of the customer journey, from awareness through decision-making.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, marketers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure content meets the strategic goals and messaging is appropriate for the target audience.
- Participate in strategy meetings to align content development with marketing objectives and campaign strategies.
- Participate in customer experience exercises to plan, generate and produce integrated campaigns that resonate across platforms, audiences, and stages of the customer journey.
Research and Development:
- Market and audience insight – Dive deep into market research and audience insights to tailor content strategies effectively. This might involve more direct interaction with target audiences or utilising sophisticated market analysis tools.
- Stay informed about new research, drug developments, and therapeutic area trends to ensure content is current and relevant.
- Conduct literature searches and reviews to support content creation and to substantiate claims made in promotional material.
Educational and Training Materials:
- Develop educational materials for healthcare professionals, including slide decks, training modules, hybrid training programs and product monographs.
- Create patient education materials that are understandable to non-scientific audiences.
Growth Trajectory:
- This role has the potential to grow into a leadership pathway as the agency expands, with scope to shape how we grow our creative and scientific capabilities.
Additional Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely delivery of content.
- Address and incorporate feedback from clients, healthcare professionals, and regulatory bodies.
Strategic Planning:
- Contribute to the strategic planning of campaigns by providing insights into product data, scientific research, and the competitive landscape.
- Assist in the development of key messages and value propositions for products.
Digital Media:
- Adapt content for digital platforms, ensuring it is engaging and suitable for the medium (e.g., websites, social media, mobile apps).
- Manage planned content and dissemination of assets over time to help open up opportunities for re-engagement and drive customer acquisition and conversion across the user journey.
- Understand SEO principles to enhance the visibility of online content.
Continuous Learning and Development:
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory updates, and advances in digital marketing.
- Share knowledge and best practices with team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
