Project Overview
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

The Kangwinan project continues the long-term collaboration between Rio Tinto and Bechtel in Australia. The world-class project aimed to sustain production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.

Job Summary
In this role, you will be responsible for cost control, construction progress reporting, analysis and other project controls activities requiring a high degree of technical skill, with respect to Early Works packages for design, supply and installation at Site.

Major Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and understanding all relevant project documents relating to cost control of allocated packages
  • Establishing project control budgets based on approved project cost estimate
  • Reviewing and certifying contractor progress claims for payment
  • Reviewing cost commitment and expenditure information for input to cost control and reporting system (Ecosys)
  • Support of works contractors in establishing routine reporting in line with Project requirements
  • Monitor the development of contractor's reporting deliverables to the required format and standard
  • Producing cost status reports and advising management of any forecast cost overruns; Maintaining accessible cost control registers and dashboards.
  • Monitors cost and commitment of assigned purchase orders and contract packages.
  • Performs routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities, as directed.
  • Assists with budget allocation and reporting/cost control for specific construction discipline or group of disciplines.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Requires Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Project/Construction Management or related fields (or international equivalent) and years of relevant experience

Required Knowledge Ad Skills

  • Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing cost engineering functions, including engineering and construction progress reporting, cost control, and cost analysis, in the field and the home office.
  • Proven project experience as a Cost Engineer
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated ability to present Project Controls information to management/client
  • Advanced level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up work processes, as performed by Tier One construction contractors (EPC/EPCM).
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Minerals process plant and materials handling experience is beneficial.

Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.

  • This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
