Home to around 2,000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 communities, our Council is committed to preserving culture and providing essential services across the Central Desert.

About Ngaanyatjarra Council

The Ngaanyatjarra Lands are managed by the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group, a wholly community-led entity that represents the interests of Traditional Owners (Yarnangu) who reside in the communities of Warburton, Irrunytju (Wingellina), Papulankutja (Blackstone), Mantamaru (Jameson), Warakurna, Tjirrkarli, Tjukurla, Wanarn, Kiwirrkurra, Patjarr and Pira Kata (Kanpa). Each of the Communities is an autonomous, separately incorporated body. Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) is central to life in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands with Yarnangu having an unbroken connection to Tjukurrpa for more than 65,000 years.

Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.

The Role: Relief Municipal Services Officer (MSO)

As a Relief MSO, you'll provide critical support across various communities, stepping in to manage and coordinate municipal services when permanent staff are unavailable. This role is perfect for someone with technical skills, adaptability, and a passion for remote community work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide relief coverage for municipal services, including power station operations, bore and sewerage monitoring, road maintenance, waste management, aerodrome maintenance, landscaping, and fire prevention.
  • Support and guide Aboriginal Municipal Services Officers (AMSO's) as required.
  • Assist in maintaining employment opportunities for community members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards, including aviation regulations.
  • Report on activities and maintain communication with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members and leaders.

About You:

  • Trade qualifications or HR licence, with mechanical knowledge or trade experience.
  • Current driver's license, WA WWC, and Police Check (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience working in remote Aboriginal communities preferred.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Strong time management, organisational skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Competence in power generation, machinery operation, and municipal services.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to community engagement.
