Job Description

About the opportunity

Join our Technology Vertical as QA Engineer in Australia to make a real impact every day. We say that because we know that every conversation we have, every code line we write and every interface we design is another opportunity for us to enrich our customers' experiences.

Reporting into QA Tech Lead, you will help us lead the quality assurance efforts across our data and analytics platforms. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and performance of our BI solutions, including data pipelines, data warehouses, and reporting tools. Some of the other responsibilities include:

  • Validate data accuracy, completeness, and transformation logic across multiple systems and environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Developers, Product Managers, QAs to ensure test coverage and alignment with business goals.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to perform in-depth data validation and reconciliation.
  • Own the defect lifecycle: log, triage, track, and report issues using Azure/Jira and Confluence.
  • Mentor junior QA team members and provide technical guidance on BI testing best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of QA frameworks, standards, and automation strategies for data testing.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and influence sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives from a QA perspective.
  • Support SIT and production validation, ensuring data quality in live environments.
  • Recommend improvements to QA processes, tools, and automation strategies for BI testing.

Location: For this position, you can work from home 100%, anywhere in Australia, provided you have full working rights.

What would make me a good candidate?

We are looking for curious and empathetic people. We also love to hear from people who are motivated by meaningful work, resonate with our four core values, have a positive outlook, are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive working in an ever-evolving and complex environment. We are inspired by meeting big picture thinkers and doers, people who can be both tactical and strategic, aim high and put people first in everything they do.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in data testing, a strong command of SQL, and a strategic mindset to drive continuous improvement in QA practices. This role best suits a solid intermediate or a fresh senior QA Engineer.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven intermediate level and higher experience in QA, with some years focused on BI, data warehouse, or analytics testing.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience validating large, complex datasets.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, and data governance principles.
  • Hands-on experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Azure Dev Ops, JIRA and Confluence.
  • Knowledgeable in API testing (e.g., Postman)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong attention to detail and a passion for data quality.
  • Comfortable working independently and leading initiatives in a remote team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) is advantage.
  • Exposure to data quality frameworks or tools (e.g., Great Expectations, dbt tests).
  • ISTQB Advanced Level or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with test automation in data environments.

At Xplor, we believe that the best innovation and ideas happen at the intersections of our differences - people of diverse cultures, generations, disciplines, and lived experiences. So even if you think you do not tick all the boxes, we still encourage you to apply.
