Werrington Public School is a medium sized public school situated in the outer western suburbs of Sydney in the Penrith local government area. It has an enrolment of approximately 529 students in 2025 in twenty-one mainstream classes and five support classes for students with physical and multicategorical disabilities. 12.5% of enrolled students identify as Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander. 31% of enrolled students are from a language background other than English, Werrington Public School also supports a number of families from a refugee background. Werrington Public School implements evidence based teaching and learning programs. Our school is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school. Werrington Public School is identified as serving a community with a socio-economic disadvantage. Our school learning support centre, offers specialist programs for students who are experiencing difficulty with aspects of their learning or development, and has links to the Wellbeing Health In Reach Nurse (WHIN) program.
Following a detailed situational analysis and consultation process the key initiatives to ensure student and school success at Werrington Public School are: Student growth and attainment - Numeracy; Student growth and attainment – Literacy; and Wellbeing and Partnerships.
Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria, demonstrated expertise in leading the implementation of innovative, differentiated learning programs—including ICT and High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)—to inspire continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.
Deep understanding of evidence-based research, instructional leadership, and data analysis, with proven ability to lead, coach, and deliver explicit, evidence-based professional learning to build staff capacity and strengthen student outcomes.
A highly visible, approachable leader who builds authentic relationships and fosters inclusive, school-wide practices that promote collaboration, high expectations, and strong educational partnerships across students, staff, and the wider community.
Proven ability to lead and manage effective student wellbeing and behaviour initiatives that enhance attendance, engagement, and inclusion through strong partnerships, effective communication, and a focus on positive school culture.
General Selection Criteria- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
