About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker, you will assist individuals with mobility and daily tasks to ensure they can live as independently as possible. Your role will involve providing support with personal care, mobility, and assisting with tasks such as dressing and household duties. You will promote the well-being, dignity, and independence of the individual you support, while ensuring their safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities: Personal Care and Daily Activities
- Assist with dressing, including help with fastening items like belts or buttons when needed.
- Provide support with mobility, ensuring safety and helping to prevent falls.
- Assist with basic household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation.
- Help with medication reminders and managing routines as needed.
Social and Emotional Support
- Provide companionship during outings, social activities, and community events.
- Encourage participation in social activities and assist with building relationships.
- Offer emotional support and engage in positive communication to enhance well-being.
- Respect the individual's independence while providing appropriate support.
Health and Well-being
- Ensure the individual is following prescribed health routines, including physical activity, and assist with any required exercises.
- Help track changes in health or behavior and report concerns to supervisors or healthcare professionals.
- Assist with maintaining personal hygiene routines, as needed.
Advocacy and Support
- Assist with accessing necessary services, such as healthcare, community programs, or NDIS-related support.
- Support the individual in making decisions and choices about their daily life, ensuring their preferences are respected.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of services provided, including daily updates and reports on health and well-being.
- Ensure privacy and confidentiality of client information.
- Report any issues or concerns promptly to supervisors or managers.
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensure a safe environment for the individual at home and during outings, including using appropriate equipment for mobility assistance.
- Follow safety protocols, including manual handling, and emergency procedures.
- Participate in regular training related to health, safety, and best care practices.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Cert III or Cert IV in Disability Support (or equivalent)
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
- NDIS worker modules Completed
- NDIS worker check
- Police Check or willing to obtain
- Working with childrens check or willing to obtain
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate attitude.
- Ability to assist with mobility and provide physical support in a safe manner.
- Ability to respect the individual's autonomy and provide dignified care.
- Valid Driver's License and fully comprehensive car insurance.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience working with individuals who have mobility challenges.
- Knowledge of NDIS and disability support services.
- Patience, empathy, and a strong desire to make a positive difference in people's lives.
- Ability to adapt and adjust care according to the individual's needs.
Working Conditions:
- Flexible hours (may include weekends and evenings).
- Physical tasks may include assisting with mobility and helping with daily routines.
- Travel may be required, depending on the role and location.
