Primary objective

Provide sound professional advice critical in dealing with significant issues related to assessment, planning, review, evaluation, and

coordination of education programs in defined practice area.

Context statement

The Nurse Education Consultant (NEC) works under the direction of the District Manager Correctional Health to support, develop and

deliver educational theory and practice utilising adult learning principles in Primary Health Care (PHC) and emergency care. Demonstrated

experience in clinical and educational delivery in adult and youth PHC. The position is responsible for identifying and implementing

individual and team learning requirements to meet core competencies aligned with organisational standards and regulatory frameworks

within PHC. The NEC requires advanced communication, leadership, and planning skills to engage multidisciplinary teams and promote a

culture of continuous improvement. Extensive clinical experience relevant to working in a PHC setting and the delivery of care within the

standard treatment manuals. The successful applicant will be eligible to obtain a NT drivers Licence and meet the NT Department of

Corrections security clearance

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Collaborate in the development and implementation of education programs to support professional development needs of healthcare

workers and address inconsistencies between practice and policy within the defined practice area.

2. Support delivery of excellence in nursing/midwifery care by modelling advanced knowledge, skills, and behaviours for the provision of

client care and working alongside less experienced staff to develop appropriate skills, knowledge, abilities, and attitudes.

3. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.

4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.

2. Demonstrated education/training or experience in the development and/or delivery of education theory and practice.

3. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in an area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy, and application of adult learning

principles using a range of modes/methods to enable delivery of high quality clinical and education practice.

4. Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate education programs to better meet organisational needs and/or

address new and emerging developments.

5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships with internal and external

stakeholders and facilitate a positive learning environment.

  1. Demonstrates and applies well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities

that influence healthcare and delivery of education programs.

Desirable

1. Graduate Diploma, or equivalent, beyond entry to practice relevant to specialty area.
