The Opportunity
Maribyrnong City Council is seeking Senior Project Managers with significant experience in delivering Capital Works projects from client side including and not limited to Buildings, Civil Infrastructure and Open Space projects to help guide and project manage Capital Works projects across the municipality playing a key role in all stages of project from development of project brief up to handover to the relevant service manager. The Senior Project Manager is accountable to manage scope, budget, risk, stakeholders and timeframes within agreed parameters during project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Defining the Project scope, goals and deliverables in support of business goals and in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
- Prepare contract documentation and specifications for capital works and procure, liaise and manage consultants and contractors regarding allocated Capital Works Projects.
- Report regularly to the relevant Coordinator Project Delivery on expenditure and progress for allocated Capital Works
- Ensure all works are executed safely and meet the needs of Council's customers with minimal inconvenience or disruption to people and traffic
- Deliver high quality Capital Works Projects on time, within budget, scope and to Council standards and specifications
- Oversee contracts with external providers against service delivery specifications, timelines and financial performance indicators involving maintenance of effective project and contract management systems to monitor and report project expenditure against budget, record variations and forecast project costs
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks and devise contingency plans
- Supervise allocated Capital Works Projects by carrying out site inspections and attending/organizing site meetings as required
- Maintain an excellent customer service interface when dealing with enquiries, requests and complaints from the public
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Building, Construction, Architecture or other related disciplines, or lesser qualification with substantial knowledge of and experience within the construction industry, building and civil project management.
- Extensive experience within project management including design, construction and contractor management. Demonstrated by experience in managing multiple complex and concurrent projects.
- Solid understanding of best practice contracting and tendering processes, Australian construction standards, codes of practice and relevant legislation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders in a complex public sector environment.
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge, skills and experience with managing and implementing the duties and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004
- Ability to effectively work independently and within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Advance level of computer proficiency including Project Management tools and MS Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiency on multiple construction and work sites.
- Current Victorian driver's license.
- A current Police check
- A current Working with Children check
- No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
