The Role

We are seeking a Tech Lead to drive the next stage of Locumates product development. Youll be responsible for leading our engineering efforts, working closely with the founders, and coordinating delivery across two external development agencies. Your focus will be on process discipline, quality, and speed of execution – ensuring feature requests, bug fixes, and releases are managed effectively.

This is a hands-on role that combines technical leadership with process ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead Locumate's technical development roadmap in alignment with business priorities.
  • Coordinate and manage the work of external development agencies, ensuring accountability and timely delivery.

  • Implement and maintain strong processes for:

  • Feature requests and prioritisation

  • Development cycles and sprints
  • Bug tracking and resolution

  • Release management and QA

  • Provide architectural guidance and ensure scalable, secure, and reliable system design.

  • Collaborate with product and business teams to translate requirements into technical outcomes.
  • Champion best practices in code quality, documentation, testing, and DevOps.
  • Mentor and support team members as we scale internal engineering capability.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Tech Lead, Senior Engineer, or Engineering Manager in a SaaS environment.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern web application stacks (our stack: PHP backend, frontend, MySQL DB – AWS-hosted).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead distributed or outsourced engineering teams.
  • Experience establishing processes for agile development, CI/CD, and release management.
  • Familiarity with security standards (SOC 2, ISO is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable in a startup environment: adaptable, outcome-focused, and proactive.
