Western Geolabs is an independent mineral sands lab in Bellevue, currently undergoing an exciting phase of modernisation under new ownership. We're strengthening our capabilities, upgrading systems, and growing our position in the market, and we're looking for the right person to be part of that journey.

This is a 6–12 month contract, with the potential to transition to a permanent full-time role for the right candidate.


What You'll Do
  • Perform mineral sands sample preparation, including drying, weighing, sieving, splitting, and heavy-liquid separation (TBE).
  • Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment to required standards, reporting issues promptly.
  • Follow laboratory QA/QC processes to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and data integrity.
  • Record results with precision and full traceability using our digital data systems and laboratory registers.
  • Monitor consumables and equipment usage, and assist with stock control, ordering, and workflow efficiency.
  • Contribute ideas to continuous improvement and support the development and refinement of lab systems, SOPs, and best-practice processes.
  • Maintain safe work practices and uphold WHS requirements at all times.
  • Take pride in maintaining a clean, organised, and professional laboratory environment.
  • Actively participate in lab modernisation initiatives, including new systems, equipment upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Support a collaborative team culture by sharing knowledge, troubleshooting issues, and helping refine new workflows.

What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years' experience in a laboratory environment (mineral sands experience highly regarded).
  • Strong understanding of sample preparation workflows and QA/QC principles.
  • A proactive, self-driven mindset - someone who takes ownership of their work and keeps the lab running smoothly day-to-day.
  • Ability to think ahead, solve problems, and suggest improvements to optimise workflow and efficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with drying ovens, sieving, digital balances, and TBE heavy liquid separation (or willingness to learn quickly).
  • High attention to detail, reliability, and pride in producing accurate and high-quality work.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing repetitive tasks and safe manual handling.
  • Certificate III/IV in Laboratory Techniques, Science or related discipline (desirable).
  • Must have valid Australian work rights.
