Laboratory Technician

GeoGAS is currently looking for a flexible, enthusiastic and motivated person to join the team as a Senior Laboratory Technician. We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Technician, preferably with exposure to the laboratories serving the coal industry.

As a Senior Laboratory Technician based in our Mackay laboratory, you will be responsible for the preparation and testing of coal samples. The prime responsibility of this role is to perform and maintain the required quality standards during the daily operational activities of the testing laboratory using safe and productive work methods.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

· Conduct coal sample testing and follow GeoGAS standards for testing procedures.

· Manage dispatch and receipt activities, including organising equipment for client projects.

· Perform gas content testing.

· Conduct coal quality tests, such as proximate analysis and relative density.

· Enter data accurately into relevant systems.

· Perform routine laboratory maintenance, including calibration tasks.

· Maintain general housekeeping and cleanliness in the laboratory.

· Follow established maintenance and calibration schedules and procedures.

· Support the daily operations of the laboratory as needed.

· Efficiently organise and prioritise sample testing tasks.

· Participate in non-core activities as assigned.

· Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards.

· Ensure all safety schedules and standards are met and completed.

ABOUT YOU

Skills and experience required include:

· A commitment to promoting laboratory safety, including good housekeeping practices.

· Candidates must be fit to perform physical duties. The role requires repetitive manual labour, including lifting 10-15kg objects daily. Candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.

· Minimum 2 years laboratory experience and/or tertiary qualifications.

· Familiarity with NATA, Australian Standards and ISO desirable, but not essential).

· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

· Effective communication skills.

· Work well as part of a diverse team.

· Enthusiasm to make a positive contribution to the team environment.

· The ability to follow instructions,

· Attention to detail and take precise readings.

· Demonstrated numerical skills required to check test results and perform simple calculations.

· The ability to work methodically, quickly and accurately maintain records.

· Available to work during school holiday periods.

· Available for on-call duties according to a rotating roster.
