The role
As an Asset Planning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Tasmania's maritime infrastructure. You'll be responsible for managing the lifecycle of critical assets—from acquisition and development through to maintenance and renewal—using data-driven insights and engineering expertise. This includes conducting condition assessments, forecasting asset integrity, and supporting project delivery teams with remediation strategies. You'll also maintain and enhance digital Asset Management Plans, ensuring TasPorts' infrastructure remains safe, efficient, and future-ready.
This role can be based in Launceston, Hobart or Devonport
Key Duties
· Conducting asset condition assessments in varied environments, from water-based inspections to capturing drone imagery.
· Developing and managing lifecycle models and predictive forecasts for diverse asset classes.
· Leveraging GIS and digital tools to streamline assessments and analysis.
· Preparing detailed condition reports and recommending actions aligned with strategic asset plans.
· Maintaining digital Asset Management Plans and updating the Asset Management Information System.
· Providing engineering support across project phases, from initiation to completion.
· Representing TasPorts in industry forums and contributing to strategic planning initiatives.

You're a technically skilled and safety-conscious engineer with a passion for infrastructure and innovation. You thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy solving complex problems with practical, data-informed solutions. You're a clear communicator, a collaborative team player, and someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality work that supports long-term operational excellence.
What you will have
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Maritime, Civil, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in construction or asset management.
- Current driver's licence.
- Ability to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong conceptual and analytical thinking.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Experience with BIM tools (e.g., Autodesk Revit) is desirable.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS and Power BI is an advantage.
- Demonstrated commitment to WHS and environmental safety.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- High computer literacy, including dashboard development for asset insights.
