Job Type: Permanent - Full Time

Job Category: Governance & Performance

Be bold. Be creative. Be part of the fight for a green and peaceful future.

At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we believe a better world is possible and we're determined to make it real. We are an independent campaigning organisation, powered by people and creative action, taking on the biggest environmental and climate challenges of our time. Our priorities are:

  • tackling climate change by stopping emissions from fossil fuel extraction at source; and
  • protecting nature, including our oceans and forests, by stopping the largest sources of environmental destruction like industrial fishing and deforestation.

Whatever your role at GPAP, you'll be part of something bigger: a passionate global movement that sparks action, holds decision‑makers to account, and drives lasting change for people and the planet. This is an opportunity to use your skills, creativity, and commitment to help shape a future worth fighting for.

FINANCE MANAGER

Role: Full time, Permanent Position

Location: Flexible - Open to candidates Australia wide

THE TEAM

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Finance Manager plays a vital strategic and operational role within our Governance and Performance Department. You will lead a small finance team, including a Payroll Officer and Accounts Payable Officer, and oversee critical areas of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, and treasury functions.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Finance Manager to lead and deliver high quality financial management that enables our ambitious mission for a green and peaceful future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, inspire, and support the finance team to deliver on reporting deadlines and organisational goals.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly accounts, analysis, and reporting.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to support organisational objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with accounting standards, taxation, audit, and statutory obligations.
  • Manage treasury functions, including cash flow monitoring and foreign currency transactions.
  • Support organisational projects with financial insights, including enterprise bargaining and system improvements.
  • Drive continual improvement of finance processes and reporting systems.
  • Represent GPAP in external financial matters and maintain effective relationships with auditors, regulators, and global Greenpeace offices.

This role is a hands-on leadership position, responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance with statutory and international requirements, and continuous improvement of finance processes. You will also provide meaningful analysis and advice to support decision-making across the organisation, while fostering a culture of financial compliance and excellence.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are a highly skilled finance professional with both technical expertise and strong leadership skills. You bring a proactive, analytical mindset and the ability to translate financial insights into practical advice. You thrive in a fast-paced, values-driven environment and are motivated to contribute to a global mission for environmental justice.

You'll ideally also have:

  • Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce, or related field with CA/CPA qualification.
  • At least five years' experience in a senior finance role, including three years in people management.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AAS), IFRS, and taxation legislation (GST, FBT, DGR).
  • Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience in managing payroll and payroll budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage audits, financial compliance, and risk.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience supporting non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, accounting systems, and finance software.

We recognise that sometimes the right person for a job is based on personal qualities and not just qualifications. If you are not sure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to make an inquiry or go ahead and apply.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
  • Be part of a globally respected brand: Work with one of the most influential names in the environmental NGO space, backed by five decades of courageous campaigning.
  • Work-life balance you can rely on: A 35-hour work week, supported by GPAP's integrity framework, plus generous leave options (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Year).
  • Workplace designed for impact: Enjoy our purpose-built head office in Rosebery, Sydney, a space created to foster collaboration and creativity.
  • A culture of belonging: Join a team that truly celebrates inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of community.
  • Support for your wellbeing: Access an annual health and wellness allowance to help you thrive both inside and outside of work.

Annual full-time salary: $116,562.56 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
