The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) is recognised as the principal non-government organisation for public health in Australia working to promote the health and well-being of all Australians. Position Overview
This is an exciting, challenging and rare opportunity to be part of, an innovative team with the ability to assist the PHAA Events Manager in implementing the events program, while providing support for and working closely with the wider events and PHAA teams.
The ideal applicant will have the capacity and experience to assist in the delivery of PHAA's public health related national and international events from end to end. 5 years' experience, in events and working in a small team, with qualifications in events management or a similar field such as project management is preferred but not essential.
The Senior Events Officer is a newly created, core position at PHAA. The ideal candidate will have the ability to exercise professional judgement in prioritising and focusing their work to support the Events Manager in the delivery of PHAA's events program. They should have knowledge or experience in, budget management and forecasting, strong stakeholder communication and event management and marketing experience.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) in our National Office in Deakin, Australian Capital Territory. The Senior Events Officer position may also involve after hours, and the capacity to undertake interstate travel.
Reporting
This position reports to the Events Manager.
Salary package
The salary package is negotiable dependent on experience and includes salary sacrificing benefits.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in the advance planning of events to ensure consistency and continuity of the events program, including effective budget development, forecasting and strategic planning;
- Assist with the management and delegation of PHAA Events program's requirements to ensure achievable outcomes and appropriate resource allocation occurs;
- Assist with the PHAA Events reporting to PHAA's leadership and stakeholders, such as End of Event Reports, CEO Reports and Annual Reports;
- Assist with maintaining PHAA's policies, protocols and templates for events to achieve event consistency and positive outcomes;
- Develop event marketing strategies, create marketing materials and build event websites and apps;
- Provide overall support to the PHAA Events Team in delivering events;
- Maintain, and build positive relationships with stakeholders, including members, event suppliers, committees, sponsors, exhibitors and speakers, ensuring continuation of relationships across events, and ongoing funding for events;
- Leading and assisting in the coordination of PHAA national and international conferences, in hybrid and virtual formats;
- Coordinate event related activities in a timely manner, taking the initiative to complete activities within the required timeframes, with the ability to work well under pressure;
- Coordinate event committees, including minute taking and reporting;
- Engage with PHAA staff to ensure synergies exist between the events agenda, activities and the broader work of PHAA;
- Fulfil broader duties as required within the PHAA office and reasonably directed by the CEO and Events Manager.
Selection Criteria

- At least 5 years' experience working in an events management role, and preferred tertiary qualification(s) in events management or a similar field.
- Ability to show initiative, with exceptional attention to detail, and excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills to manage changing event environments, including the ability to be agile in event planning
- Computer skills, including proficiency using the Microsoft Office toolset, CRM, website software and event management software..
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills including being a committed, collaborative and enthusiastic team player who builds effecting and lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work out of hours, such as at events and travel interstate as required to fulfill the position.
