Primary objective
Shape a whole-of-government approach to enhancing the Northern Territory's relationships and reputation across Asia.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Government values our place in one of the most dynamic regions in the world. The Department of Trade,
Business and Asian Relations has been established to drive investment and trade opportunities through international engagement,
particularly in Asia.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the delivery of critical, evidenced-based advice and strategy to advance the NT's international engagement, particularly
with Asia.
- Lead the implementation of government's Asian Relations agenda through the development, implementation and evaluation of
policy initiatives and specific projects in partnership with Government agencies, and business and industry stakeholders.
- Develop and sustain effective collaborative partnerships with departmental colleagues, government, business and industry
stakeholders at the local, national and international levels.
4. Enable a results-driven culture through constructive leadership and a focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of
services.
- Effective leadership of a small team, provided through an innovative and client focused approach.
- Represent the Department and the NT's interests at local, national and international engagements.
- Prepare and review high level reports, briefings, statements, and correspondence.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Expert knowledge and understanding of the Territory's current and emerging international relationships across Asia and the
strategic context for these.
2. Considerable prior experience and demonstrated capability in strategic planning, leadership and management.
3. Demonstrated skills and experience in preparing high level reports, statements, and correspondence for a wide range of
audiences.
4. Superior ability to effectively communicate and influence outcomes, including the ability to collaborate and form effective
partnerships with people at all levels in government, business and industry, locally, nationally and internationally.
5. Advanced leadership experience including the demonstrated ability to manage resourcing pressures and develop and implement
strategies to deliver exceptional service and operational efficiency.
6. Demonstrated positive management and leadership approach, which fosters a culture of high staff engagement, productivity,
teamwork and collaboration.
7. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in international relations or in business related disciplines
2. International business and/or government experience and/or foreign language skills
