National Parks and in the South West Region include Yalgorup, Wellington, Greater Preston, Wiltshire-Butler, Dalgarup, Forest Grove, Blackwood River, Wooditjup, Yelverton, Whicher, Leeuwin-Naturaliste, Scott River, Hilliger and Tuart Forest. The Ngari Capes Marine Park stretches along the west coast from Geographe Bay in the north to Flinders Bay near Augusta in the south.

The South West Region's key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, fire management, and land-use planning. The region's headquarters is based in Bunbury. Services are also delivered via the Blackwood District, located at Busselton with work centres at Margaret River, Nannup and Kirup, and the Wellington District, located at Collie with a smaller work centre at Harvey.

We currently have an opportunity for an Operations Officer to join our Wellington District team.

Under the general direction of the District Parks and Visitor Services Coordinator, this position:

  • Plans, coordinates and implements the Parks and Visitor Services (PVS) works program including capital projects and capital maintenance programs associated with the expansion of Wellington National Park within the Wellington District
  • Assists with the preparation of capital budgets and the monitoring and control of capital expenditure within the Wellington District.
  • Undertakes an active role in prescribed burning and bushfire suppression operations.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the district Visitor Risk Management program and databases.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the operational implementation of works programs associated with natural land management or a closely related field or technical area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading and managing teams, showing a high level of self-motivation and skills in organising and implementing works programs, scheduling work, setting and reviewing goals and controlling and reviewing progress, including experience with contractors and volunteers.
  • Evidence of well-developed interpersonal skills and experience in effective liaison with external organisations, including local authorities, private companies, other government agencies, stakeholders (including Aboriginals) and community interest groups and evidence of openness and honesty in all dealings including supervisors, work colleagues, customers and the general public.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, contract management, budget preparation, control and expenditure of allocated work projects. Evidence of ability to show a conscientious approach to all issues and consistency in meeting project deadlines.
