The Opportunity:

AIA currently has an opportunity available for a Senior Analyst – Financial Risk to join their team in either Melbourne or Sydney. Reporting to the Head of Market Risk, within this role you will support the analysis and articulation of the Australian business's (Life and Health) financial (asset and insurance) risks, and oversight of the financial risk framework, including supporting relevant committees managing financial risk, and input into the oversight of asset-liability management, market, credit, liquidity, insurance risk and capital management outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Market Risk, Head of Insurance Risk and Manager – Financial Risk to ensure the delivery of sound advice, guidance, analysis and reporting on financial risks to support sustainable business outcomes.

To do this successfully you will:

  • Support second-line oversight and challenge of insurance and reinsurance proposals
  • Assist in oversight of asset-liability management, market, credit, liquidity risk, and capital management outcomes
  • Collate, challenge, and contribute to the development of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for financial risk and sustainability reporting
  • Support the generation of regular Capital-at-Risk and Market Risk reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Support relevant committees managing financial risk
  • Provide analytical support for financial risk assessments, ad-hoc requests, and projects from time to time, from senior stakeholders
  • Contribute to quarterly reporting inputs for market and insurance risk
  • Engage with business units to ensure timely collection of KRIs and other risk data
  • Recommend and implement improvements to data collection and validation processes to strengthen reliability of risk metrics
  • Explore and propose tools or analytics enhancements (e.g. PowerBI, data visualisation) to improve insight and decision-making

Preferred applicants will demonstrate the following:

  • Actuarial student studying towards full FIAA qualification
  • Previous experience within the Australian life insurance and / or health insurance industry
  • A strong understanding of the key drivers of life and health financial risks from capital and ALM perspectives
  • Experience working with or understanding of investment environment and derivative use; Value-at-Risk modelling; Reinsurance; and operational risk and compliance considerations
  • Sound relationship management skills and the ability to develop cross organisational networks
  • Competency with Power BI, Microsoft Excel (including use of macros), Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Python, R and AI skills may be beneficial for this role
