The Opportunity:

AIA currently has an opportunity available for a Manager – Financial Risk to join their team in either Melbourne or Sydney. Reporting to the Head of Insurance Risk, within this role you will support the analysis and articulation of the Australian business' (Life and Health) financial (asset and insurance) risks and oversight of the financial risk framework. This will include but not be limited to supporting relevant committees managing financial risk and input into the oversight of asset-liability management, market, credit, liquidity, insurance risk and capital management outcomes.

The successful incumbent of this role will have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Market Risk, Head of Insurance Risk and Senior Analyst – Financial Risk to ensure the delivery of sound advice, guidance, analysis and reporting on financial risks to support sustainable business outcomes.

To do this successfully you will:

  • Provide second-line oversight and challenge across asset-liability management, market, credit, liquidity, insurance and reinsurance risk, and capital management outcomes
  • Support (and lead as delegated) the development and maintenance of financial risk frameworks, policies and standards
  • Support evolution and enhancement of Risk reporting more generally, which may involve collaboration with other Enterprise Risk teams
  • Support generation of Capital-at-Risk and Market Risk reporting, ensuring accuracy and insight for decision-making
  • Support (and lead where delegated) relevant committees managing financial risk
  • Ensure timely and accurate input into the Chief Risk Officer Report as delegated, and other financial risk reporting for Board and Risk Committees.
  • Deliver sound advice and analysis on financial risk matters to business stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions.
  • Provide input into reinsurance proposals, product pricing, strategic asset allocation reviews, and projects as required from time to time.
  • Build strong relationships with Heads of Market Risk and Insurance Risk, Senior Analyst – Financial Risk, and other key stakeholders such as Actuarial, Reinsurance functions, Pricing and Investment teams.

Preferred applicants will demonstrate:

  • Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) qualification, with demonstrated post-qualification experience
  • Previous experience within the Australian life insurance and / or health insurance industry
  • A strong understanding of the key drivers of life and health financial risks from capital and ALM perspectives
  • Experience working with or understanding of: investment environment and derivative use; Value-at-Risk modelling; Reinsurance; and operational risk and compliance considerations
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to develop cross organisational networks
  • Competency with Power BI, Microsoft Excel (including use of macros), Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Python, R, and AI skills may be beneficial for this role
