Sunshine Coast Health are seeking a non-accredited Principal House Officer (PHO) to join our Acute Surgical Unit (ASU) Trauma Service. The Trauma Service is a consultative service in which specialist trauma nurses and medical staff support the initial Emergency Department (ED) management of severely injured patients and continue to provide comprehensive trauma case management.

As part of the Queensland Trauma System, Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) tertiary teaching hospital is currently classified as a 'Regional Trauma Service' (rather than a Major Trauma Service) with a referral service provided to facilities at Noosa, Maleny, Gympie, Caloundra, and Nambour. SCUH is currently the 3rd busiest trauma centre in Queensland for presentations of major trauma.

The roster structure for this position is a 9-day fortnight working Monday to Friday with one day RDO per fortnight and planned weekend overtime as required.

Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:

Provision and coordination of the inpatient care for Trauma patients admitted under the Acute Surgical Unit (ASU) and General Surgical Consultant.

Attend daily morning and afternoon ASU handovers to identify and review trauma patients.

Receive referrals and undertake admissions of trauma patients from the Emergency Department and inter hospital transfers (IHTS).

Attend all Emergency Department Trauma Responds and, when required, Trauma Alerts.

Gain valuable experience in the spectrum of trauma management, whilst contributing to the ongoing development of the Trauma Service

Salary rates: $4, $5,470.70 p.f., employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading (17.5%) (L4 - L7) (temporary full-time position, 76 hrs p.f.) until February 2026.
