About This Opportunity 

The School of Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) is seeking passionate and experienced educators to join our teaching team in 2026.

These five fractional teaching-focused roles offer the chance to contribute to high-quality teaching and student engagement in a collaborative academic environment. These roles will all commence on 19 January 2026, each with varying FTE levels and end dates as below:.

Position 1: Australian Politics and Political Theory

Appointment Details: 0.7FTE; January 19 to December 4, 2026

Teaching responsibilities for this position include co-ordination for the following courses:

  • POLS 1101 Introduction to Australian Politics (Semesters 01 and 02) 

  • POLS 1301 Introduction to Political Theory (Semesters 01 and 02) 

  • POLS7002 Foundations in Politics, Policy and International Studies (Semester 01)

  • POLS2805 Advanced Topics in Politics – Women and Power in Australian Politics (Semester 02) 

Position 2: Political Non-Violence and Conflict Response

Appointment Details: 0.4 FTE; January 19 to December 4, 2026

Teaching responsibilities for this position include co-ordination for the following courses:

  • POLS2503 Conflict and non-Violent Change (Semester 01)

  • POLS7514 The Politics and Power of Non-Violence (Semester 02)

  • POLS3222 Humanitarianism and World Politics (Semester 01) 

Position 3: Public Policy

Appointment Details: 0.4 FTE; January 19 to December 4, 2026

Teaching responsibilities for this position include co-ordination for the following courses:

  • POLS7111 Dynamics of Public Policy (Semester 01)

  • POLS3102 Governance and Australian Public Policy (Semester 02)

Support for the development of external offerings for the Master of Governance and Public Policy 

Position 4: International Relations

Appointment Details: 0.2 FTE; January 19 to July 3, 2026

Teaching responsibilities for this position include coordination for the following course:

  • POLS2224 Culture and World Politics (Semester 01)

Position 05: Indigenous Politics

Appointment Details: 0.3 FTE; January 19 to December 4, 2026

Teaching responsibilities for this position include co-ordination for the following course:

  • POLS1801 Introduction to Indigenous Issues (Semester 02)

  • POLS2101 Indigenous Politics and Policy (Semester 01) 

Key responsibilities will include: 

Teaching

  • Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, design effective assessments, and undertake marking for undergraduate and postgraduate offerings.

  • Contribute to the development of new course materials by consulting with program advisors and stakeholders to ensure content remains engaging, relevant, and contemporary.

  • Maintain and improve the quality of courses as measured through student evaluations and feedback to meet academic and industry standards.

  • Apply University rules, policies, and guidelines relevant to teaching and learning practice.

Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate behaviours that align with UQ's values of excellence, creativity, integrity, and inclusion.

  • Provide leadership of self and others through mentoring, collaboration, and active participation in School initiatives.

  • Undertake internal service roles and committee participation as required.

  • Support colleagues and teaching teams during periods of leave or absence.

About You 

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant area of Political Science or International Studies.

  • Demonstrated record of high-quality university teaching across small and large class settings, with experience in course coordination.

  • Evidence of participation in projects that improve curriculum, pedagogy, or assessment practices, with funded projects viewed favourably.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and consultative skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in teaching and learning.

The successful candidate may be required to complete pre-employment checks including right to work, criminal history, and education verification.
