Melbourne, Victoria, Australia North East Link State Tolling Corporation Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

About the Role – Project Accountant

Join the North East Link State Tolling Corporation (STC) as a Project Accountant and play a key role in shaping the financial success of Victoria's largest road transport project. This is a full-time, fixed-term position until 30 December 2028, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to Victoria's largest road transport project. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial integrity across both core STC operations and the Toll Collection Capability (TCC) Project. Initially, you will balance project and day-to-day finance activities, transitioning to operational finance functions as STC moves into its next phase. This role is ideal for a proactive finance professional who thrives in complex, project-driven environments and is committed to delivering excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain cost control systems and detailed costing models for STC projects, with a focus on the Toll Collection Capability (TCC).

  • Drive budgeting and forecasting for projects and operations, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and governance standards.

  • Analyse financial performance, identify variances and risks, and provide insights to support informed decision-making.

  • Design and deliver dashboards and reports for project, corporate, and Board-level requirements.

  • Advise stakeholders on financial processes, cost control, and reporting standards while collaborating across teams to align financial planning with contracts and milestones.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and processes, including ERP integration, and foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace.

Our Ideal Candidate

You're a detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in collaborative environments and enjoys working across diverse teams to deliver accurate, insightful financial reporting. With strong skills in budgeting, cost control, and stakeholder engagement, you can confidently manage competing priorities and adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a focus on strategic outcomes.

You bring a proactive mindset, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and safe workplace. Your ability to build trusted relationships—both internally and externally—combined with your analytical approach ensures you can influence decisions, support compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement in financial systems and processes.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related discipline.

  • Experience in project accounting or financial/management accounting within project-driven environments, ideally infrastructure or large-scale public sector projects.

  • Advanced proficiency in financial systems and tools (ERP platforms such as Oracle or SAP) and strong Excel skills for modelling and analysis.

  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, including accruals, forecasting, and variance analysis, with practical knowledge of project management principles.
