The Role
David Jones exists to inspire like no other, and as we continue to deliver on our ambitious transformation agenda in line with our Vision 2025+ strategy, we are committed to creating inspired careers so our people can Thrive.
As the Digital Product Manager – Mobile App, you will play a crucial role in advancing our digital strategy by leading the development of the David Jones mobile app as a flagship digital product that improves customer experience and drives business growth. Working closely with the Head of Product, Ecommerce Trade and Operations Teams, and key business stakeholders, you will create app product roadmaps and release plans that align with the David Jones vision. By collaborating with internal and external delivery partners, you will ensure initiatives are executed to maximise value for customers, team members, and partners. Additionally, you will champion the mobile app, managing its lifecycle to ensure continuous adoption, improvement, and long-term success.
What your day looks like
- Engage with customers and users to understand their needs through app journeys, usability feedback, and app store reviews, and share these insights with the organisation and delivery team.
- Participate in side-by-side listening sessions with team members to understand how customers and team members interact with the app in-store and online, informing mobile-specific features and user stories.
- Take part in customer research, including usability testing, feature pilots, and adoption studies, and share insights to help the delivery team understand the purpose behind app features.
- Translate research findings into well-rounded features, epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria to ensure the mobile app embodies the voice of the customer and user.
- Collaborate across relevant departments and key stakeholders to ensure alignment of the app roadmap and product vision with the David Jones strategy and fiscal year objectives.
- Conduct ongoing research to stay ahead of mobile commerce innovations, app adoption trends, regulatory changes, and competitor app developments, integrating these factors into the mobile app roadmap and lifecycle.
What you'll need to Thrive
- Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate product vision, goals, and roadmaps, with direct ownership of a customer-facing mobile app or equivalent digital product.
- Proficient in Agile principles, with a deep understanding of your role within a Scrum team.
- Proven expertise in customer journey mapping and user story development for mobile, effectively grooming backlogs across journeys such as onboarding, browsing, purchase, loyalty, and service booking.
- Skilled in facilitating workshops and showcases with stakeholders, guiding them through the mobile app journey and incorporating their specialised insights into app considerations.
- Experienced in identifying, validating, and prioritising mobile app opportunities such as optimising conversion, integrating omnichannel features (e.g. click & collect, in-store booking), and enabling loyalty partnerships.
- Capable of championing and supporting agile teams, removing blockers and establishing best app delivery practices at scale.
- Experienced in developing estimation practices within a team, enabling data-driven decisions for app backlogs and release cycles.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, adept at partnering with marketing, loyalty, and retail operations teams to drive app adoption, engagement, and clear communication on outcomes.
- Experienced in operational risk management, including control advisory, compliance, risk profiling, and change management, with specific knowledge of app compliance (payments, data privacy), security, and app store release governance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret insights from app analytics, customer behaviour, and digital performance metrics.
