MBC stretches beyond the classroom and offers girls the chance to explore their identities, while harnessing success. With 124 years of history, the College is well established with extensive libraries, sports, state-of-the-art music and performance centre, an Olympic sized swimming pool and a chapel. In 2014, the College completed a state-of-the-art Science Centre, featuring eight laboratories, a growth room and four experimental investigation rooms.
THE POSITION
We seek to appoint an exceptional individual to take on the role of Director of Mission. The Director of Mission is responsible for nurturing the spiritual identity and formation of the College, actively contributing to the development of our ethos and culture. The successful applicant will be an innovative leader with capacity to ensure faith and mission is relevant to young people, staff and the wider community.
The Director of Mission will report to the Principal of MBC. The Director of Mission is also responsible to the Board of Governors and the CEO and Executive Principal, for ensuring that the philosophy, aims, objectives, policies and standards of the Uniting Church in Australia, are maintained in all activities in the College. The Chaplain will meet termly with the Principal.
The Director of Mission is a member of the Primary and Secondary Leadership Teams and promotes the Christian character and ethos of the College and implements decisions aimed at building the College as a witness to the values of the Christian gospel.
The Director of Mission will maintain professional collegiality with local clergy, other school chaplains and community organisations.
The Director of Mission will have oversight of the Religious Education Curriculum, and is available to teach Religious Education classes within the College (at 0.4FTE). The Director of Mission advises the Heads of Primary and Secondary on all matters relating to the RE curriculum and Service Learning and to the Principal on all other matters pertaining to the spiritual life of the college.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Faith and Values Leadership:
- Promotes and nurtures the religious identity and mission of the school.
- Ensures that the school's values, often rooted in a specific faith tradition, are integrated into all aspects of school life.
- Spiritual Formation and Pastoral Care:
- Oversees liturgical events, such as Chapel, and spiritual development programs for students and staff.
- Supports the pastoral care framework, contributing to student wellbeing through a values-based approach.
- Curriculum and Religious Education:
- Leads and collaborates with teaching staff to ensure that religious education is aligned with the school's mission.
- Lead the development and delivery of religious studies or ethics programs.
- Community Engagement and Service:
- Lead and administer the College's Service-Learning Program in collaboration with the Pastoral Team.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement an appropriate, structure and sequenced Prep-Year 12 Service-Learning Program which enhances learning outcomes, provides students with substantial encounters that challenge their capacity for Faith.
- Establish and nurture a range of community links and partnerships to facilitate Service programs.
- Co-ordinating special liturgical celebrations and Chapel Services.
- Performing administrative tasks associated with Chapel Services, including, but not limited to:
- preparing sermons and messages
- organising and preparing student/staff readers
- liaising with the Chapel music team to accompany services
- Chapel set-up
- arranging visiting speakers
- Providing input at weekly assemblies when called upon.
- Promoting staff and student prayer in the college.
- Arranging special services for staff and families as required.
- As a member of the Pastoral Team, providing spiritual support for staff, students, and families in times of need.
- Providing leadership for the Chapel Leaders Team.
- Attending appropriate meetings as required:
- Staff Meetings
- Primary and Secondary Leadership Team Meetings
- Pastoral Team Meetings
- Religious Education with Teachers of RE in the college
- Meeting termly with the Principal, to discuss matters relevant to Ministry within the College.
- Promoting Christian service providing practical support as part of service learning within the College.
- Helping to plan, develop and implement the Religious Education curriculum to achieve a continuous, seamless RE curriculum.
- Being actively involved with College life and available for duties as negotiated with the Principal.
- Working with the Heads of Sub-schools, Pastoral Teams and college psychologists to promote wellbeing and flourishing within the school community.
- Actively contribute to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
- Mark the roll each lesson and inform Student Services of unexplained absentees.
- Prepare lesson objectives and outlines for lessons following work program and syllabus guidelines.
- Endeavour to keep abreast of pedagogical trends.
- Be prompt in grading of all assessment items.
- Set realistic times and dates for completion of homework and assignments.
- Inspect homework for proper completion; make regular checks on Homework Diaries.
- Prepare student folios for Parent/Teacher Evenings.
- Attend Parent-Teacher Interviews and Parent Information Evenings when required.
- Report to parents when necessary at interview and through written reports.
- Effectively monitor, assess and report on student performance including interim and end of semester reports.
- Respond to needs of individual students.
- Supervise classes of absent teachers when required.
- Seek permission for excursions from the appropriate staff and complete all necessary documentation.
- Manage student behaviour as per the College Behaviour Management Policy.

- Lead and support the religious and spiritual life of the College with passion and energy.
- Have the ability to build positive relationships and inspire the wider College community in all aspects of Faith and Mission.
- Have the ability to build a culture of service within the school community.
- Be a gifted and experienced teacher.
It is desirable that the Director of Mission have:
- experience in teaching Religious Education.
- experience in relevant church or chaplaincy roles.
- Youth Ministry qualifications and/or experience.
- Queensland College of Teachers registration.
- The Chaplain is resourced with a desk, computer, individual preparation room and filing cabinet.
- Full-time, permanent role.
- Paid as a Specialist Role under the Moreton Bay College Enterprise Agreement
