About the role
Join our dynamic team as an engineer and make a meaningful contribution to the field of fire engineering. This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects, develop your technical skills, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism. If you are passionate about fire safety and engineering, we invite you to apply and become a valuable member of our team.
We will be considering whether you possess consulting experience in building materials, structures, fire systems, human behaviour and safety, and fire prevention, detection, and suppression.
Responsibilities:
Developing fire safety strategies and conveying them through sketches and reports.
Successfully delivering projects on time, managing technical risk, and ensuring client satisfaction.
Cultivating strong, trust-based relationships with project stakeholders, including but not limited to owner corporations, legal sector, regulators, and local councils.
Managing your own projects.
Assessing compliance with the relevant statutes and standards.
Investigating whether Building Code of Australia's performance requirements can be met.
Developing solutions leading to final Fire Engineering Reports (FER).
Liaising with local authorities, legal sector, stakeholders and internal team.
Contributing to the overall strategy and development of the team and the company's culture.
Contribute to project meetings.
Upholding BASIC's professional standards, ethics, and quality procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Structural, Fire, or Mechanical) or a Bachelor of Science in a relevant discipline.
Preferably, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) (Fire Safety) listed on the National Engineer Register (NER) or Chartered Engineer through The Institute of Fire Engineers, or actively working toward this accreditation.
Strong interpretation and knowledge of the relevant provisions in the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standard (not essential but considered).
Ability to technically analyse and critique the credibility of evidence.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Competence in conducting scientific calculations related to fires, smoke movement, and occupant evacuation.
Ability to fact find and problem solve to meet persuasive conclusions supported by authorities.
Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
A positive team player.
Three years' experience in the private engineering consulting sector.
