Health Education Team Manager – Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC)
Full-time permanent | Kings Cross, Sydney (Gadigal Land)
Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 6:00pm | Award role
At Uniting's Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC), we stand at the forefront of harm reduction and compassionate care. For over two decades, MSIC has been a safe, non-judgemental service for people who inject drugs – reducing overdose deaths, connecting people with health and social support, and working alongside the local community.
We are seeking a
Health Education Team Manager
to lead and inspire our dedicated team of Health Education Officers (HEOs). This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for shaping the day-to-day operations of the HEO team, guiding frontline harm reduction practice, and contributing to MSIC's ongoing service development and strategic direction.
About the role
As the Health Education Team Manager, you will:
- Lead, mentor and develop a diverse team of HEOs, ensuring they have the skills, resources and confidence to deliver safe, high-quality support.
- Foster a workplace culture that is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in harm reduction principles.
- Work closely with the MSIC Senior Leadership Team to translate strategy into action – including planning, budgeting, reporting and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership at the frontline by modelling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including drug overdose management in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Deliver training and education in harm reduction practice, supporting capability-building across MSIC.
- Oversee staffing within allocated budgets and in accordance with relevant industrial agreements and Uniting policies.
- Lead health promotion and project initiatives such as the MSIC Art Project, and strengthen engagement with First Nations peoples in service design and delivery.
- Contribute to policy development, service evaluation, report writing, grant applications, and published articles.
- Build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships that enhance outcomes for MSIC consumers and the community.
About you
We are looking for a collaborative, compassionate and confident leader who brings:
- Proven experience leading teams in health, community services, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of harm reduction approaches and the issues impacting people who inject drugs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, budgets, WH&S and compliance in a complex service environment.
- Experience in responding to and managing behaviour escalations and/or assisting with medical emergencies, such as overdose
- Excellent communication, training and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower staff.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advocate for positive outcomes for vulnerable communities.
