The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Substation Primary System Design Engineer to join us in an upcoming joint venture tender, based in Sydney - North. This will be a 6-10 month role scope, with potential to extend into project delivery. Employment terms are negotiable.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed designs for high-voltage primary equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and busbars, ensuring alignment with AS/NZS standards
  • Prepare single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, and specifications for primary systems
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, and insulation coordination studies using software like ETAP or PSS/E
  • Liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure equipment meets technical and quality requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure designs comply with safety and environmental regulations
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and testing phases
  • Collaborate with secondary, civil, and telecommunication teams for integrated substation design
  • Review and update design documentation to reflect as-built conditions and project changes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in substation primary system design
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Professional engineering chartership or registration (highly desired)
  • Proven ability to manage complex design projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience within major project tenders (highly desired)
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or PSS/E.
