Substation Engineering Manager

ACEREZ is a consortium, comprised of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy which has been appointed Preferred Network Operator by EnergyCo to design, deliver, operate and maintain the transmission line network for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).

The new transmission infrastructure, which will combine high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and related infrastructure, will enable generators such as solar and wind farms and energy storage providers in the CWO REZ to connect to the electricity grid, providing a reliable supply of clean, affordable electricity for households and businesses across NSW while helping to meet the state's newly legislated Net Zero targets.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Substation Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing engineering oversight and assurance to the design, procurement, construction, test and commissioning, and handover of REZ substation assets. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills to ensure the REZ substation design from D&C complies with the Technical Requirements and any Network Operator/M&L requirements and is integrated with overall REZ design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Engaging the D&C Contractor, to ensure REZ substation assets are designed, built, and tested in accordance with the requirements of the Project Deed and Technical Requirements.
• Work with the Transmission Engineering Manager and external SMEs to support whole of design compliance and provide cover for Transmission Engineering Manager as required.
• Working with the ACEREZ external technical SMEs. Review of D&C substation (and other as required) design submissions in accordance with agreed design management process.
• Monitoring D&C design program and provide reporting on progress and issues to ACEREZ management.
• Monitoring of relevant D&C project performance, assist with reporting against the Delivery Program.
• Chairing internal and external facing SME meetings as required by the Technical Manager.
• Contributing to status / dashboard / scorecard report on technical issues. Maintaining registers of technical issues.
• Identifying and capturing quick wins and socialising.
• Surveillance of construction and commissioning processes to provide assurance that as-built REZ assets (including substations) are in accordance with certified design and meet Project Deed requirements.
• Supporting the completions process and maintaining Network Operator records of design, construction quality and as-built information.
• Working with the Independent Certifier to close-out comments and achieve necessary certifications.
• Supporting asset handover from D&C to M&L

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in either design or asset management of transmission substation infrastructure assets.
• Experience in whole of asset lifecycle considerations in design
• Ability to understand and evaluate capex / opex / risk trade off to reach a balanced position.
• Relevant technical knowledge and capability in electricity transmission infrastructure.
• Decisive with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement / interpersonal relationships skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage a wide range stakeholders.

DESIRABLE

• Familiar with National Electricity Rules requirements for generator connection and network operations
• Construction experience of substation assets
