The Cancer Centre for Children Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a temporary 1.0FTE (40
hours per week) Staff Specialist to join their team as soon as possible through to 9 November 2026.
To work as an integral member of the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, to provide a comprehensive Oncology service for children/adolescents with cancer including investigation, treatment and long-term follow-up of newly diagnosed and relapsed patients with neuro-oncologic malignancies.
To participate actively in the development, conduct and oversight of clinical trials as principal or associate investigator.
To enhance clinical applications of novel cancer therapies and diagnostic technologies in the evaluation of patients with cancer and their responses to treatment.
To fully participate in the Multidisciplinary team approach to care and to contribute actively in the area of research, education and advocacy.
To ensure that clinical services are centred on improving and delivering excellence in clinical care for children and supporting their families.
To participate in quality improvement activities, and the training and education of staff.
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.

- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, Paediatric Oncologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Training comparable to the requirements of the RACP Specialist Advisory Committee in Medical Oncology.
- Pertinent clinical experience in the management of the wide spectrum of paediatric oncology diseases, including paediatric neuro-oncologic conditions, along with capacity to develop and apply emerging novel strategies in cancer care.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with a high level of communication skills.
- Commitment to participate in peer review, quality improvement, patient safety and risk assessment with a commitment to teaching.
- Evidence of continuing professional development together with evidence with commitment to the goals of an organisation in which the applicant has worked beyond direct patient care.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify, initiate, implement and evaluate clinical quality improvement within the Oncology service.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
