Who We Are
In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.
As caretakers for Melbourne's water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.
Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we're there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world's cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.
If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what's right, you're in the right place.
About The Role
As the Senior Construction Engineer, reporting to the DSS Quality Assurance Regional Manager, you will be an Engineer and construction expert. You will work closely with the Project Engineers in the Construction Assessment & Delivery (CAD) team at Melbourne Water who work collaboratively with land development consultants, contractors and private landowners to ensure that the new stormwater treatment & flood prevention infrastructure assets such as Wetlands, Waterways, Retarding Basins & Pipelines being constructed in conjunction with the development, meet Melbourne Water's standards and expectations.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Inspect DSS construction sites around the Melbourne Water region to make practical engineering & vegetation decisions in real time, assess and resolve field-based issues, collaborating closely with Construction & Project Engineers in the CAD team and various stakeholder teams throughout Melbourne Water.
- Provide input and comment on the suitability of the Site Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) submitted by the developers' consultant.
- Involvement in project management, encompassing financial aspects such as variations, cost options, and more.
About You

- Experience within Environmental, Geotechnical, Vegetation, SEMP's and/or Civil Engineering projects.
- Experience in the Land Development industry, preferably derived from site-based roles within Government entities.
- Ability to demonstrate capabilities including decision making related to working on simultaneous multiple large-scale site based projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal and negotiation abilities.
- Capacity to lead, guide and support fellow team members in handling intricate site-based matters and navigating ambiguous situations with financial consequences.
- A preference is given to individuals showcasing experience in both people and technical leadership roles. An essential requirement is a background that includes informal mentoring and coaching experience.
- Strong Health, Safety & Environment mindset in relation to working on active construction sites.
- Industry White Card required.
- Willing to perform Medical, Criminal Record and Qualification Checks.
- Victorian Drivers Licence required.
An Operational vehicle will be supplied with the option to explore Limited Private Use. This role will require you to work from site 4 days per week (any region of Melbourne's growth areas) and currently one day from the Docklands office or home.
