Construction Director – Fit-Out & Refurbishment

Location: Melbourne, VIC (Southbank)

Schiavello is a leading multi-disciplinary property and construction group, recognised nationally for our ability to deliver projects that combine craftsmanship, innovation, and long-term client value. Our Construction division in Melbourne is growing, and we are seeking a proven leader to join us as Construction Director – Fit-Out & Refurbishment.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the National Director in charge of Construction, this pivotal role will oversee the operations of our local Fit-Out and Refurbishment business. You will play a key role in driving performance, and  building a sustainable pipeline of projects and talent.

While the focus will be on fit-out and refurbishment, you will also have the mandate to leverage Schiavello's broader capabilities and pursue new opportunities across the construction spectrum. The successful applicant will be a collaborator who can build trust in management through proactive communication. They will be adaptable and resilient, with a pragmatic approach to day-to-day BAU, without losing sight of broader business strategy and long term goals. Integrity and transparency are critical to this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Fit-Out & Refurbishment business operations.
  • Develop a capable project delivery team.
  • Build strong pipelines of work, securing new business both within and beyond the fit-out/refurbishment sector.
  • Leverage existing client relationships and networks to generate repeat and referral opportunities.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and profitability.
  • Drive operational excellence and alignment with Schiavello's values of reliability, collaboration, and outcomes.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record as a senior leader in the construction industry (fit-out and/or refurbishment experience highly regarded).
  • Strong client relationships and deep knowledge of the Melbourne construction market.
  • A current Builder's License.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop talent, and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Business development acumen with a history of winning work and contributing to revenue growth.
  • Commercial mindset with a strong and proven track record of delivering profitable projects
  • Strategic thinker with a balanced understanding of opportunities and risks in business and construction
