NCVER and the VET sector has, and continues to, experience a period of significant business change, with NCVER playing a major role in transforming systems and technology relating to the collection of data from the sector.
About the role
As NCVER's Data Governance Officer, you'll be at the heart of ensuring data is accurate, secure, and used responsibly across the organisation. The role will oversee the implementation of a strong data governance framework, guiding data usage, retention practices, and driving a culture that treats data as a powerful asset.
You'll guide teams across NCVER to ensure consistent data use, ensure compliance with privacy standards, and promote transparency. Through strong governance leadership, you'll enable data to deliver meaningful insights, foster innovation, and drive informed decisions across the education and training sector.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the development, implementation, of NCVER's data governance framework.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Support the ongoing development and enhancement of data assets.
- Provide guidance to teams on data governance best practices.
- Identify and resolve data related issues and risks
About you
The successful candidate will require the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience in data governance, data quality, and/or data management roles, including understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA DMBoK, ISO 8000, ISO 38505), and proficiency with data governance tools or platforms (e.g., data catalogues, quality monitoring).
- Proven ability in establishing and promoting best practice data governance and management policies, in alignment with contemporary best practices adopted by Commonwealth agencies and leading statistical bodies, such as the ABS, and encompassing critical areas including data usage, retention, and the processes governing decision-making related to the use and provision of data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing concise policies and other procedural guidance.
- Experience developing and delivering training or awareness programs to promote understanding of data governance responsibilities and practices.

Appointment Details
- Ongoing full-time position, based in Adelaide or located in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra will be considered with regular travel to Adelaide.
- Gifted leave over Christmas shut down
- Hybrid working from office/home arrangement
- A generous salary package commensurate with skills and expertise will be negotiated with the successful candidate
