Who is QAL?
Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) is an accomplished airport operator which owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville, Longreach and Mount Isa airports – connecting the Gold Coast and northern NSW, along with regional Queensland, to the rest of the country and beyond. Our company has a vision to engage customers, connect communities and deliver exceptional experiences – and a commitment to delivering for the communities where we operate. We have been formally recognised as a 'Great Place to Work – Certified' organisation four times and recently was awarded Work180 accreditation as a champion for gender equity for the second year in a row. Our company is dedicated to a target of net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030.
There has never been a better time to join us.
What you'll contribute to:
An exciting newly created opportunity has become available for a forward-thinking Asset Engineer to join the team at Townsville Airport, part of the Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) group.
This new role has been established to drive the development and implementation of asset management strategies that align with QAL's strategic objectives, ensuring the long-term sustainability, efficiency, and resilience of airport infrastructure.
As the Asset Engineer, you will take the lead on asset renewal and long-term planning, failure analysis, and the management of critical spare parts, using data-driven insights to guide infrastructure decisions and investment.
You will also be responsible for overseeing utilities and building control systems, ensuring regulatory compliance while promoting cost-effective and environmentally responsible resource management.
Michael joined Townsville Airport as an Airport Facilities Coordinator in 2024 and shares his unique experience with the company:
"I joined QAL because of its strong reputation for treating employees with respect and fostering an environment of equality. Over the past year, I have been part of the Assets team in Townsville, where I have experienced an exceptional culture that emphasizes collaboration with employees, contractors, and customers. The company's flexibility is unparalleled, and it is highly supportive of individuals' personal needs. What I value most is the opportunity to apply my experience to develop improved solutions for problem-solving within our team. QAL provides both job security and an enjoyable work environment, making it a place I look forward to coming to every day. It is a great place to work with great people."
How will you make an impact?
As the newly appointed Asset Engineer, you'll bring a strong technical foundation to drive meaningful outcomes across the airport's infrastructure.
Key deliverables/responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and maintain asset management plans and systems, including asset lifecycle strategies, critical spares management, and performance analysis to support long-term infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
- Manage utilities (electricity, water, waste) and building control processes, including approvals, metering, and regulatory compliance. Drive resource efficiency and cost-saving initiatives while supporting maintenance operations.
- Provide technical input into asset design and specifications, coordinate minor projects, and ensure effective asset handover to operations in collaboration with project teams and facility coordinators.
- Deliver regular performance and maintenance reporting, identify improvement opportunities, and contribute to innovation and efficiency across asset management practices, systems, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, aviation safety, and security requirements. Actively engage stakeholders and contractors to uphold QAL values, safety standards, and deliver excellent internal and external customer service.
What we offer you?
This is an opportunity to be part of a progressive organisation with a great culture and assist in the transformation and growth of the business. Flexible working options are available for all employees. At QAL, we uphold the philosophy that the smooth integration of life and work benefits all. We call it 'Living Well'.
QAL supports an inclusive approach and values diversity within the workplace. We aim to provide opportunities that allow individuals to reach their full potential regardless of their background, gender, age, work status, religious or cultural identity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.
