The Opportunity
We're seeking a driven and experienced
Senior Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson
to join our Townsville team. This full-time role offers the chance to work across a varied range of client projects and commodities. You'll collaborate with a high-performing, supportive team and play a key role in delivering innovative design solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Interface and collaborate with design and engineering teams across multiple offices to support a diverse range of client projects
- Undertake mechanical, piping and materials handling equipment drawings, plans and design tasks (Brownfield and Greenfield) from concept through to commissioning
- Develop design concepts and create 3D models, visualisations and animations
- Collect and analyse data for design calculations, specifications and datasheets for bulk materials handling, mining and heavy industry plants
- Materials handling systems design - wet and dry process plants, conveyors, belt feeders, screens, stackers, reclaimers
- Develop and improve mechanical and piping design drafting tools, including ongoing writing, implementation and maintenance of procedures and policies, drafting guides and technical notes pertaining to mechanical design
- Review and revise mechanical drawings for accuracy, integrity, standardisation, constructability and best practice
- Provide support during construction, assembly and installation and commissioning phases, with periodic on-site involvement as needed
- On-site quality control, testing, inspections, maintenance assessments and condition monitoring activities
- Liaise with clients, and assisting with the programming of the design works across the team by interpreting and relaying job specifications, instructions and recommended procedures to the team
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders by providing concise project updates and proactively addressing challenges
- Ensuring that designs and completed works are align with project and client specifications, regulations, budgets and contract provisions
What skills you can bring to the team:
- Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent
- Competency in recognised CAD systems (we use Autodesk)
- 12+ years of demonstrated technical experience in related industries
- Extensive experience in multidisciplinary consulting / workshare environments, collaborating across diverse teams and complex project portfolios
- Significant mining, mineral processing plant and industrial experience
- Mechanical, materials handling and piping design experience
- Bulk materials handling experience is essential
- Design experience in wet and/or dry mineral processing plants
- Brownfield and Greenfield design experience
- Knowledge and practical application of relevant industry codes of practice
- Ability to understand and assimilate project and client specific requirements
- Self-motivated and decisive, adaptable to change and competing demands
