Disability Support Worker

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Disability Support Worker plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing comprehensive, person-centered support. The primary objective is to empower clients to achieve their goals, foster independence, and promote inclusion within the community.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Develop and implement personalised support plans in consultation with clients, families, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
  • Facilitate and coordinate community engagement and social inclusion opportunities for clients.
  • Monitor and document client progress, maintaining accurate and timely record-keeping.
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support to address the unique needs and challenges of each individual.
  • Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess and address clients' holistic needs.
  • Support clients in accessing educational, vocational, and recreational opportunities.
  • Advocate for clients' rights, ensuring their voices are heard and respected in decision-making processes.
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situations, following established protocols and ensuring the safety of clients.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes dignity, respect, and autonomy.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of support services through regular feedback, evaluation, and suggestions.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organised, and safe living environment for clients.

  • Cultural competence, sensitivity to diversity, and the ability to work with clients from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments, client needs, and organisational priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Certificate III or IV in Disability Support or a related field is required.
  • Essential requirements of the role:
  • National Criminal History check or NDIS Worker Check
  • Working With Children Check
  • Valid Driver's Licence
  • Suitable vehicle with comprehensive insurance
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Two professional references
  • Right to work in Australia
  • Covid-19 Vaccination
  • Smart phone

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting People with Disability.
  • Demonstrated Continuing Professional Development.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficiency in providing personal care and support services.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to effectively prioritise tasks.
  • Competent in using relevant technology for documentation, communication, and reporting.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork skills.
