Spinifex Hill Studio is located in South Hedland with a vision of creating a place where Aboriginal artists from across the region could come and paint and share community and culture. The painting practice of the Spinifex Hill Artists is as diverse as the many language groups the collective of over 100 artists represents.

It comprises Spinifex Hill Studio (an Aboriginal art studio) and Spinifex Hill Gallery (an exhibition space and community programming facility). Current residents of Port or South Hedland are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Aboriginal & Islander Partnerships Manager, the Spinifex Hill Team Leader is a highly collaborative leader with significant Aboriginal cultural awareness and a deep understanding of the visual arts industry.

Responsibilities

• Guide the delivery and implementation of programming plans across the Spinifex Project Space, Studio and public programming.
• Provide effective leadership and supervision of the Gallery and Studio teams
• Build strong community stakeholder relationships and empower artists
• Maintain a culturally safe environment
• Administrative and operational duties, including asset management and coordination of maintenance
• Monitor budget allocations, coordinate artist payments and assist with financial reports
• Support funding initiatives and grant reporting.

What You'll Need to Get You Started

• At least two (2) years' of experience in arts management and administration in a community studio, preferably in remote Aboriginal communities
• Current and unrestricted C Class Drivers licence
• Committed resident of the Port Hedland area and ability to work at the Spinifex site in South Hedland
• Current, or ability to obtain, a Working With Children Check
• Current within one (1) month, or ability to obtain, a National Police Clearance

Desirable Qualifications

• At least two (2) years' of experience in arts management and administration in a community studio, preferably in remote Aboriginal communities
