Saga Psychology is a child and adolescent psychology practice based in Reservoir, Melbourne. We are committed to providing high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based care for young people and their families. As our practice continues to grow, we are seeking to strengthen our governance, compliance, and ethical use of emerging technologies.
We are looking for a Legal & Policy Consultant to join our team in a part-time capacity. This role will ensure our policies and procedures are compliant, risk-aware, and future-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy & Documentation
- Audit, draft, and update practice policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and record-keeping obligations.
- Maintain up-to-date policies in areas including child safety, consent, risk management, complaints, and staff/contractor agreements.
Legal & Compliance Guidance
- Monitor and advise on compliance with AHPRA and Psychology Board of Australia standards, as well as federal and state laws (privacy, health records, mandatory reporting, employment).
- Provide input on employment and service agreements to reduce risk.
- Liaise with insurers and external regulators as required.
Incident & Risk Management
- Oversee and improve incident reporting processes.
- Develop practical frameworks and tools for identifying, managing, and reporting risks.
- Support staff in building confidence with compliance and risk management procedures.
Ethical Technology & AI Integration
- Provide advice on the safe and ethical use of AI and digital tools in practice.
- Draft internal guidelines on AI use, data security, and client safety.
- Support leadership in future-proofing the practice with emerging technologies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Law, Healthcare Governance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in policy development and compliance within healthcare, psychology, or allied health settings.
- Knowledge of privacy law, child safety standards, and clinical governance.
- Understanding of digital health and AI ethics highly desirable.
- Strong written communication and ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical policies.

Key Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated experience in policy development and compliance within healthcare, psychology, or allied health settings, with the ability to review, draft, and implement policies that meet legal and professional standards.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, including Australian Privacy Principles, child safety and mandatory reporting requirements, health records law, and AHPRA/Psychology Board of Australia guidelines.
Experience in incident and risk management, including the ability to design frameworks, oversee reporting processes, and provide practical tools to support staff in risk identification and response.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, accessible policies and guidance for clinical and administrative staff.
Understanding of ethical considerations in digital health and AI, with the ability to provide guidance on safe and responsible integration of technology into clinical practice.
