About Us

At Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ), we are proud to be Queensland's leading provider of relationship and family wellbeing services. Our purpose is to provide individuals and families with the tools and support they need to build happier, healthier lives. Through education, counselling, and community programs, we help people develop the skills and resilience to navigate life's challenges.

Our work promotes care and safety, embracing diversity to foster strong and connected communities. We are committed to expanding our expertise and leading conversations about relationships, mental health, and social connection.

By joining Relationships Australia Queensland, you can be part of a dedicated team making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities.

About the Role

Relationships Australia Queensland is seeking an experienced and passionate First Nations Practice Lead to provide cultural leadership and guidance in the delivery of high-quality services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

This is a significant opportunity to influence organisational practice, strengthen cultural capability across RAQ, and ensure our programs and services are inclusive, respectful, and responsive to First Nations peoples.

In this role, you will contribute to organisational initiatives, provide cultural knowledge and supervision, and lead the continuous improvement of RAQ's cultural clinical capabilities.

Additionally, you will:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of RAQ's First Nations initiatives and workplans in partnership with leadership teams.
  • Represent RAQ in relevant First Nations networks, including attending Relationships Australia's National Indigenous Network (RAIN) meetings and chairing groups as required.
  • Provide cultural supervision to First Nations staff, and cultural case consultation and support to non-First Nations staff to build cultural capability.
  • Support the development and delivery of cultural fitness training across RAQ, contributing to training content and evaluating its effectiveness.
  • Analyse and interpret client and program data to ensure evidence-based practices that improve outcomes for First Nations clients.
  • Review RAQ practice and supervision materials to ensure they are evidence-informed, inclusive, and culturally appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Employee Action Groups and internal networks to advance organisational cultural initiatives and promote RAQ's commitment to reconciliation

About You

To thrive in this role, you are an inspirational and culturally grounded leader who is deeply committed to improving outcomes for First Nations peoples. You bring both lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and professional expertise in facilitating cultural knowledge, practice development, and workforce capability building.

You are a trusted communicator and relationship-builder, able to work collaboratively across teams and with community stakeholders to drive meaningful and sustainable change. You are motivated by continuous improvement, with the ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation.

Additionally, you have:

  • Lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (this is an identified role).
  • Relevant undergraduate qualifications in Behavioural Science, Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, cultures, and service needs.
  • Experience communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally.
  • Strong skills in building positive and respectful relationships, cultural capability leadership, and project delivery.
  • Competency in reporting, data analysis, and using IT systems (Microsoft Office, web-based applications).
