We are seeking a highly experienced Financial Accountant to join our team. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on accurate financial reporting, compliance, and analysis. For the right candidate, this position presents a clear pathway to future growth into the Financial Manager role.
Role Purpose
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely accounting, statutory compliance, and financial analysis to support business decision-making. This role will work closely with the Commercial Manager to ensure GCE's financial integrity, while also supporting payroll and project reporting processes.
This role requires a high degree of technical expertise, ownership and initiative, with the ability to step into a leadership role in future.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Maintaining general ledger integrity and ensuring reconciliations are accurate and up to date.
- Supporting preparation of management reports for Commercial Manager and senior leadership.
- Assisting with budgeting and forecasting, including variance analysis.
- Monitoring cash flow and preparing reports to support business planning.
Compliance & Taxation
- Preparing and lodging BAS, IAS, payroll tax, and other statutory returns.
- Ensuring compliance with ATO obligations, GST, FBT, and company tax requirements.
- Liaising with external auditors, tax advisors and regulatory bodies.
Accounts & Payroll Support
- Overseeing accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and timely payments/collections.
- Reviewing payroll reports and superannuation obligations for compliance.
- Supporting accurate allocation of costs across projects and cost codes.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Using JobPac and Assignar for cost tracking, project accounting and reporting.
- Identifying opportunities for processing automation and efficiency in finance systems.
- Supporting continuous improvement of internal financial procedures and controls.
Business Partnering
- Providing financial insights and recommendations to the Commercial Manager.
- Assisting Project Managers and senior leaders with cost tracking, analysis and decision support.
- Contributing to strategic discussions by supplying clear financial data and risk assessments.
Required Experience
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in financial accounting or senior accounting roles.
- Experience in construction, engineering, or related industries strongly preferred.
- Solid technical accounting knowledge (Australian Accounting Standards, tax, compliance).
- Experience with JobPac and Assignar (or similar project accounting systems) highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of financial outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- CA/CPA qualified (or working towards completion).
- Current right to work in Australia.
