The Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence (PGCNV) is one of the leading providers of family and domestic violence services in the Perth metropolitan area. Supporting more than 5,000 Western Australian women and children last year, we provide crisis accommodation facilities and support, women's and children's counselling services and outreach programs.

Our reputation is driven by our commitment to providing a high-quality, client-focused and sustainable service to clients accessing our programs and services.

In addition to the provision of direct response and recovery services, we also provide advocacy, referral information and support to women and their children seeking relief from the impact of domestic violence.

About the role

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Intake Officer to join our Counselling Team and provide support to the counselling team and clients experiencing family and domestic violence and/or homelessness.

This role will work in with the PGCNV counselling team. The position will also act in an advocacy role for all clients of the PGCNV counselling service.   Comprehensive knowledge and experience of services and networks to support counselling clients is required.  Supporting the counselling team and their clients to make decisions and participate in the assessment and triage of counselling clients.

About you

Qualifications

·    Tertiary qualification in Social Work, other relevant area or equivalent experience in a peer mentoring/counselling field

·    Eligibility for membership of AASW or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

·    Demonstrated exceptional people skills and be able to work with children and adults from all walks of life

·    Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to advocate, liaise and negotiate with clients, work colleagues, other service providers and government agencies

·    Demonstrated ability to manage and organise time in a crisis environment

·    Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention and assessment, with strong conflict resolution skills

·    Demonstrated knowledge of community resources relevant to the needs of women (and children) who are dealing with the impact of family and domestic violence

·    Demonstrated ability to work according to the principles of client-centred practice and family systems

·    Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word

·    Demonstrated ability to foster positive working relationships

·    Demonstrated understanding of the importance of professional and personal boundaries

·    Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision

·    Readiness to work within the Patricia Giles Centre's Values framework

·    Demonstrated understanding of contemporary family issues including, family domestic violence, abuse; homelessness, poverty, mental health and the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs and knowledge of support services available to address these issues
