Structural Design Engineer

Who are we looking for?

MI Engineers is seeking a passionate and driven Structural Designer to join our growing Design & Project Management team in our Wollongong NSW office. The successful candidate will support our business in project delivery of a wide variety of infrastructure design projects. Clear communication skills and enjoyment working in a team environment is essential.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • All aspects of design in structural engineering. Involvement in projects from technical design and documentation through to completion on site.
  • Preparation of design sketches and details for drafting by technical staff and oversee the design development and documentation.
  • Undertake site inspections.
  • Practice safety in project design and delivery, supported by quality checking and verification activities.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying potential or existing issues with designs and communicating possible solutions.
  • Leading and mentoring of junior staff.

About you:

  • Minimum 5 years' recent experience working in a structural engineering design consultancy.
  • The ability to 'hit the ground running' with proficiency in the use of software such as AutoCAD and SPACEGASS is essential
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Great relationship building and communication skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, or closely related field
  • Experience in the management and mentoring of staff.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian Standards and design codes (AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 1170)
  • Current Australian driver's licence for site inspection requirements
