Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, as a Senior Systems Engineer you will join an exciting project working on new and innovative engineering activities focused on Submarine Combat System development. As a proactive and collaborative engineer, you will engage directly with key stakeholders as you work to introduce new technology to Australia's fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement product solutions for integration into the Combat System.
  • Lead and conduct product verification and validation activities, ensuring alignment with design specifications.
  • Generate and maintain product design certification documentation in accordance with system product specifications.
  • Provide engineering support to transition products into service.
  • Conduct technical risk analysis and lead junior engineers to facilitate documenting and executing verification and validation activities.
  • Run major reviews throughout the project lifecycle, including peer reviews, preliminary and detailed design reviews and test readiness reviews.
  • Mentor junior team members to build team skills in systems engineering methodology, as well as the required tools and procedures.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in relevant Engineering disciplines with eligibility to hold Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) standing and a level of Design Authority delegation to support system Design Certification activities.
  • Ideally 8 years' experience in Systems Engineering involving one or more of the following: requirements definition, requirements management, analysis, design, integration and verification in one or more of the following engineering fields: Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Communication, Software and/or Combat/RF Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders at client, peer, supplier and senior leadership levels.
  • Knowledge of project management milestones coupled with the ability to work autonomously or with minimal supervision to deliver completed work according to scheduled commitments.
  • Available to undertake travel where necessary to meet requirements of the role.
  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to Negative Vetting 1 level.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working within defence or a highly regulated industry
  • Experience with Microsoft and Atlassian tool suites (Teams, JIRA, Confluence, etc)
  • Experience with scientific or engineering documentation and test engineering processes and procedures
  • Experience with Linux operating systems, networking and technical problem solving
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a NV1 Security clearance as needed. Eligibility can be found at
