Laing O'Rourke Rail Operations Hunter Valley is rapidly growing and looking for experienced Railway labourers / Machine Operators & FBW's to join our team.
We undertake significant railway and transport infrastructure upgrade Maintenance and Projects throughout Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, and regional NSW.
We are currently recruiting for the following positions:
- Track Labourers and Rail Trainees
- Track Leading Hands
- Aluminothermic and Flash-butt Welding Operators
- Resurfacing / Tamping / Regulator Machine Operator and Trainee
- Machine Operators (Excavator / FEL / Hi-Rail)
Based out of our Telarah Depot you will be required to work across all of our Hunter site's and be willing to travel to regional NSW areas as and when required.
These are great opportunities for individuals who are either based in the Hunter Valley, or who are seeking a change of lifestyle from the large cities, to work in a regional environment, whilst being close to Maitland and Newcastle City areas.
The successful candidates will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills plus the ability to work in a team environment whilst meeting both safety and delivery targets.

To be a successful participant you will ideally demonstrate experience within a similar position (other than for the Trainee roles), as per the below:
Mandatory training requirements (other than for Trainee roles):
- Experience with Railway works both maintenance and renewals.
- Current Drivers Licence
- Rail Industry Worker Card (RIW)
- Current track safety awareness
- Pass a CAT 3 Medical
To be considered for this role you must be willing to:
- Capability of working in physically demanding, high performance Rail Teams.
- Work may involve working away from home at times.
- Be able to work weekends/nightshifts when required.
- Follow Laing O'Rourke Next Gear Safety Principles
- Undertake additional training as and when required
Current tickets such as FBW operator, FBW Offsider, AT Welder, Front-End Loader, Roller, Excavator and Welding, Tamper / Regulator Operator will be considered favourably for all positions.
